I was the one who proposed to HIM!

My husband and I are both active duty military, he's a Marine and I am an officer in the Navy. I was scheduled to leave for a school in weeks, and then would be off to a new duty station many miles away...so I knew it was now or never.

We went for a weekend getaway to the Columbia Zoo in Columbia, SC. As we were leaving the zoo, it was POURING down rain, so he went to get the car while I waited. There was a young lady next to me who's date was doing the same for her, and she said to me, "I'm soo nervous! This is our first date!" ...to which I responded, "You think you're nervous...I'm about to propose to my boyfriend tonight, and he has no clue...!" She wished me luck and we both went our separate ways.

That night, in the hotel room, my boyfriend was in bed and I went to my bags and got 2 gift wrapped presents out and handed one of them to him. The first was a pewter photo album with pictures from our dating adventures ... on the last page, there was a card inserted that said, "Tony, will you marry me? Chel" When he got to the page, he started giggling and kept saying my name, and giggling...and I then handed him the 2nd gift and said, "Just so you know I'm serious..." and inside was a gold band with "Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes" engraved all the way around the inside...

He kept giggling and saying my name, and I finally said, "I'm flattered that you're so speechless, but I need an answer..." He said, "I'm not saying 'No'...just not right now.." I then made him give me the ring back. The following Valentine's Day, he said "If you ask me that question again, my answer would be 'Yes'"...and we were married at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas the following May.

It was on my birthday....

He has 3 children from a previous marriage and they were visiting that weekend....

He was making pancakes and his daughter who was 7 yrs old at the time, was helping me set the table.....

Now that I look back at it....I couldn't figure out why she had this happiness about her but I just thought it was b/c it was my birthday and we were having pancakes and such for breakfast....

I went to go get his son's birthday present when breakfast was ready (his son's birthday is in the same week as mine).

When I got back to the dining table, there was a box on my plate and his daughter was sitting next to me....

I said, "what is this," and Tia said, "open it."

Well, I unwrapped the box and then Matthew came around to my side of the table and took the box from my hand and he truly did kneel and asked me to marry him....

Tia said she knew about it the whole time....she went with her daddy to pick it up and she was really glad that it was me he was going to marry....

We had planned on an "first date anniversary" dinner date, at the same restaurant we had our first date. We even sat at the same table we sat at the first time. There was a live band playing and just about as we were finishing our dinner, the band announced that they wanted to do something a little different - a dance contest. They would start playing music and 'judges' would tap out the couples that were not 'winning'. I suggested that we participate, but my boyfriend hemmed and hawed (he's not the greatest dancer) - but when the music started, I realized they were playing our favorite waltz (Can I Have This Dance) so I DRAGGED him on to the dance floor. He was very nervous (I told you he is not the greatest dancer). The judges started tapping people off the floor and we managed to stay on. By the time the bridge came to the song, it looked like we were the only couple left! During the musical interlude in the song, the lead singer started reciting a poem, and it ended with this line:

Kelli, Howard wants to know. Can he have this dance for the rest of his life.

By this time Howard was down on one knee, in the middle of the dance floor, holding up a ring box while all of the other participants were circled around us and clapping. Of course I said yes, once the tears and whimpering stopped. The hostess gave me a dozen roses that Howard had dropped off earlier and I found out later that he had given her a disposable camera to capture the whole event. We finished the dance with everyone circling around us and singing along to the song.

The whole thing almost didn't happen because the band that Howard had made the arrangements with canceled at the last moment because of a death in the family. The new band did not know the song. Howard had rushed a CD over to them while they were setting up and they learned it over dinner. It was also a night of blizzard to end all blizzards and I had tried to talk him out of going out that night!

Kelli, Destination unknown

My fiancé and I have been dating since July 29, 2002. It didn't take more than 3 weeks before we said "I love you!" and within a month's time I think we both knew we were meant to be together for life.

In January of '03 we started planning our first vacation together. It started out as a 4 day trip to Orlando and wound up being a week long vacation to Couples Swept Away Resort in beautiful Negril, Jamaica!!

Although we planned on waiting until we'd been dating about a year to gain our family's acceptance of taking our relationship to the next level, we started to play around with the thought of getting engaged while we were in Jamaica.

A few more days into the trip we decided that there was no better setting and no better time in our lives to make the commitment to one another, so we bought an engagement ring.

On our second to last night there, he took me out to a nice dinner at a fancy restaurant. After dinner, he asked me to go for a walk with him on the beach like we did almost every night. But this night, he looked especially pale. I knew something was up.

He had sneakily set up the video camera on a lounge chair on the beach and we stood in front of it. He started to kiss me softly and then he looked into my eyes and said, "There comes a time in every man's life that he must choose the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with & I want that woman to be YOU!" He got down on one knee in the sand, pulled out the beautiful ring which sparkled under the moonlight and said to me "Korin, will you be my wife?" I could hardly hold back the tears to get out the word "YES!" After several minutes of hugs and kisses, we ran back to the hotel room to call our parents to tell them the wonderful news.

The best part is...I have the WHOLE THING on tape to watch over and over again whenever I want!! I will forever be able to remember that beautiful night on April 27, 2003 when my soul-mate asked me to be his forever!!!

Dwayne (D.J) and I meet at the most unlikely place to find a mate in the world!!! We both work(ed) part-time at the local McDonald's. We are four years apart in age, thus I was still in high school when we meet and he was in college. We started out our relationship as a friendship. I occasionally tried to hook him up with some other coworkers, during his college breaks. After breaking a silly promise to me prior to a 3-week study abroad, I told him to redeem himself he had to look at all my photographs from my trip. We're talking 14 rolls of photos from France, each with it's own story. Trust me it took hours. After then we started a causal dating, most of the time we would go to our town's excuse for a zoo, and simply chat over ice cream. This was the end on the summer before my senior year of high school. We decided to date "exclusively" two weeks before he returned to school. Keep in mind this was delicate process, he gradually met my parents, and family. It was very important that my family accepted D.J. prior to our dating. Thankfully, everyone loved him. So, that so nearly three years have passed since. D.J. and maintained a long distance relationship during school months and spent tons of time together on breaks. We've been through family deaths, my high school graduation, his college graduation, my adjustment to college life, and various other trials in our relationship. Truly, he had become my best-friend, my partner in crime. I knew I was in love with him since April 2001, and he had reaffirmed the notion in June. D.J. And...as of April 18th, 2003 he became a more than a longtime boyfriend, he became my future spouse .

On Friday, April 18th.....
To celebrate my upcoming birthday, D.J. and I wanted to do something special...yet inexpensive. I had made dinner for him and friends on his birthday in January. So, to keep with that idea he decided to make a picnic for me. When he told me the picnics plan, I was all for it, but the weather for Friday was looking dreadful. So, I wanted to postpone until the following weekend, when I would be home from school again. He was very stuck on Friday, which was really ticking me off. But, I told him okay, as long as it wasn't too cold and rainy. I couldn't afford to be sick with semester finals coming up. So, we went and brought things for our lunch the on Thursday. D.J. said as long as I was ready and bundled up by 3:00p.m. on Friday, he would do the rest. So, on Friday as planned, with lunch packed and coats zipped, he took me of the zoo. Everything seemed, normal we had been to the same spot a hundred times, I was cold, but he had planned so much I stuck it out. After eating huge subs, D.J. was acting fidgety, and I was chattering about the trail mix we had brought. After getting my mind of the damn trail mix, he murmured that he had brought me to this spot for another reason than a picnic. I amused he meet my birthday, so I thanked him for the birthday lunch, and proceed to watch the zoo animals. Then next thing I knew there he was getting up on his knee! I said: " GET OUT OF TOWN!!!" I couldn't believe he was actually going to propose. We had discussed the idea in the past, but had resolved that we would wait for my schooling to conclude. That conclusion had bummed me out, but all of a sudden there we were. Him on his knee, forgetting the speech he had made in his head, and he telling him that if he was joking I would never forgive him. Well, it wasn't a joke. He told me that he wanted to make more memories here (at the zoo) in addition to the ones we had, like first date, and kiss. That he loved me very much....and asked me to marry him. I was astounded, unprepared...all I could say was " you asked my parents? Who knew? when did you plan this?" He was like: "Tara what do you say? Marry me?" I said yes, and hugged him, and asked like a hundred questions following. Then he put the most perfect ring on my finger, I mean this ring looks like it was made for me. We spent the rest of the day telling family and friends. ( and I got wrist cramps from looking at my ring..LOL) So, there you have it love under the golden arches!!!

I want to dedicate this little story to my fiancé, he isn't as overly romantic or mushy like me, but he is mine. I love him with my whole heart. I also, want to acknowledge all the folks at Mickey D's, without that awful job, and their constant support, this dream would have never taken flight.
